A lovely host made all the difference
Tetsu-san was a wonderful host and made some wonderful meals for us. It is clear he loves to host Kumano Kodo travelers and he is very good at it. We were in the older house which has a few quirks but is relatively comfortable for an overnight stay. It is also right on the trail!

Beautiful minshuku with a wonderful host
We stayed at Third place our first night on the Kumano Kodo and had such a wonderful time! The host, Tetsu, was so kind and the homemade food was fantastic!

Enchanting old farmhouse with a gracious host
On our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Mr Tetsuyama, the kind and gracious owner of this charming, atmospheric 120 year old farmhouse and immediately made to feel at home. A lot of care and love has been poured into the restoration of this place and it shows. It was like stepping back in time without having to sacrifice the modern conveniences that 21st century travelers have grown accustomed to. Mr Tetsuyama is also a passionate farmer and excellent cook and the dinner and breakfast we enjoyed here where absolutely delicious and mainly made from locally sourced produce. Look out for the many little touches, like the sugar-free plum wine, or the blueberry jam served with breakfast.

A lovely stay with a kaiseki chef
Tetsu-san’s cooking was refined and presented beautifully - so when he shared some of his story with us, it didn’t come as a surprise that he had worked as a Kaiseki chef before retiring to this beautiful part of the world. He clearly takes great pride in his work, and the restoration of the guesthouses are a passion project. We had a lovely stay.

Incredible Stay and Host!
This was our favorite stay on the Kumano Kodo. Tetsu is an incredible host and the guest house we stayed in was perfect. The meal he made was absolutely fantastic. We felt so welcomed to Japan and to the Kumano Kodo by Tetsu and his incredible space. We would give this our highest possible recommendation!

Great Attention and Good Food!
The check in location was really visible in the Kumano Path and the Guest House was really big, clean, fresh and confortable. The food was great, the service and conversation were good!

Favorite Stay of the Kumano Kodo
Our favorite stay of the entire trip. Tetsu-san is the most welcoming and gracious host. He made us a delicious dinner and breakfast using local produce, and even treated us to his homemade plum wine, which was also so delicious. He explained each dish as it came out, which made us appreciate the meals even more. The bento he packed for the trail was wonderful too. The minshuku itself is spotless, with traditional tatami rooms, a big kitchen, and a spacious shower room. Stay here if you can!
