Very helpful staff; crazy hot springs on the river!
The proprietor was a wonderful man. The rooms were marginal and the shared toilets very small. There were two nice private onsen (also the only place to shower), but we never soaked there, because just arcoss the street is the river, were the hot springs come right up, so that you can shovel aside some of the rocks and make your own! To cool off, you simply jump in the (then) slow-moving river itself. It was also a fun social spot with other guests. Dinner was excellent!

Lovely hosts
Our hosts woke up at 5:30 AM to make us coffee and sandwiches for our journey! Rooms and (shared) bathrooms were great, and private onsen was very nice. Long walk from Hongu though, and busses going into the town were very busy.

Nice homestay with private onsen
The location is right at the entrance of Kawayu Onsen. The place is very cozy and they have private onsen onsite which is welcomed since it was raining on that day. The dinner is good and the host (Megumi) is very nice lady who have speak good English. They also have a nice Fillipino staff who helps out and she too can speak good English.

お部屋は広くてとても清潔で、川の素晴らしい景色を楽しむことができました。温泉はいつでも利用できてとてもリラックスできました。また、スタッフの方々もとても親切で、ハンバーグが本当に美味しかったです。
