Why Kumano UNWINED is a convenient, spacious, private rental located just a one-minute walk from Kii-Katsuura Station. The name is a play on words which refers to a "place to unwind" as well as to the restaurant "Wine Kumano" located on the first floor where the guests must check in. The interior has been recently renovated and reflects a modern Japanese flair with both western bed and Japanese tatami and futon, and includes a kitchenette and large wall TV projector and sound system. With only one group booked per day, it is a stylish private stay for visitors who have just completed the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route.
The owner also has two other accommodations in Katsuura: Why Kumano, Hostel & Cafe Bar and MAGURO BLDG by Why Kumano.

Good location

Great location, less than 2mins to Kii Katsuura station. Cosy place even for a group of 5.

Convenient and stylist accomodation in Kii-katsuura

Located right above a small cafe, the location was convenient, less than 5 min from the Kii-Katsuura train station. Although no meals were provided, there were many recommendations and options available. The apartment was very stylishly decorated. There was no central heating so it was a bit cold at night, but still comfortable. The single shower is downstairs so it might be a bit cold getting to the shower.

Styley apartment

We tried to check in at the hostel where our bags had been delivered, and the woman was really rude. Eventually they realized we were staying at the apartment which is across the square, and the guy walked us over there. I had the information to check in at Why Kumano restaurant, but it didn’t show on google maps. Anyway once we’d checked in it was all lovely, with a NY loft conversion vibe. Heaps of space and modern. It was expensive though, especially with no meals included. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and it was really nice. The town is a fishing port and a little run-down in areas. There are relaxing foot baths down by the wharf. Location of the apartment was great for arriving off the bus from Nachi and for the train in the morning.
