Excelent cozy guesthouse with delicious meals
Despite the initial reluctance to stay in a place a bit far away from the main trail road (about 20 minutes by car), the pick up turns into a welcomed comfort rather than a diligence. After a hard hiking day, we were picked up at the end of the daily trail and were offered the option to buy provisions for the next day at the only shop in the surrounding area, for which we were really grateful. The guesthouse is in a beatiful area next to a river, which really helps to chill and appreciate the nature of the area. The meals are absolutely delicious, and the family is welcoming and hospitable.

Very authentic stay in the woods
This was by far the most authentic stay on our Kumano Kodo trail, located in the woods 20 min by car from Kuwase bridge. We were picked up by the family and they drove us to a store to buy lunch for the next day. The host family were very welcoming and kind and we felt that we were invited home to a local family. Would recommend to everyone who wants an authentic stay more than luxury:-)

One of our most unique experiences on trail! We loved this farm stay, and the food was amazing. A very peaceful location and inspiring, kind, and skilled family practicing living in harmony with the land.

We had a wonderful stay at Cafe and Guesthouse Engawa. Our room was comfortable, the meals delicious, and we particularly enjoyed the traditional outdoor bath. The hosts were very accommodating of dietary preferences and made us a delicious vegetarian meal. Location was about a 20 minute drive from Koguchi, but the host picked us up and dropped us back off at the Kumano Kodo trailhead. Would highly recommend!

Loved it. What a beautiful family. So privileged to have spent a night with them. What an amazing place in the mountains. Great vegetarian food. Wonderful hospitality. Thank you so much.
