Absolutely outstanding!

Our stay at Keyaki Guest House was outstanding. Keyaki is located five minutes walk uphill from Takahara village right on the Kumano Kodo walking trail overlooking the village and rice paddies with spectacular views over the surrounding mountain ranges. It is the perfect place to spend your first night of the hike. Keyaki GH is like a boutique guest house and offers 2 tastefully appointed guest rooms featuring high exposed timber beam ceilings, elevated sleeping platform with futons, bath, toilet coffee nook with drip filter coffee and private verandah. Stepping into the room you are greeted with spectacular views over the mountains, rice paddies and village through the double sliding doors. It was lovely to chill on the verandah with a cold drink taking in the spectacular views. It is a very peaceful abode and bedding was very comfortable with good quality cotton sheets, doona and top sheets if a doona is too warm. We absolutely loved our stay here and would have loved to stay a couple of days. The food was outstanding, and it was evident that our host Mahito was an experienced chef. Everything was beautifully presented and the flavours were so delicate. Dinner was so delicious and plentiful as was an amazing breakfast which was more of a western style breakfast with a Japanese twist to it. Bento lunch box was also delicious. Host Mahito was very hospitable and kind and I highly recommend staying here and felt so fortunate to have chosen this place to stay as it was by far the best accommodation and meals that we had while we were in Japan.

Wonderful Experience at Keyaki

Keyaki was my favorite place to stay on my whole tour. The location is right on the KK path. The hosts are lovely and very kind. The rooms are equipped with everything you could possibly need and even have a back deck that has a wonderful view (and a very cute, very fury horse walking by)! The meals were five star caliber. The selection, flavor and presentation (in Bento Boxes) was of the highest standard and provided a great representation of the Japanese Culture. I am grateful for the experience and the kindness of the hosts. Thank you very much.

Awesome

My husband and l had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse along the Kumano Kodo. It was one of the highlights of my pilgrimage.” The location was perfect—right along the trail, making it easy to arrive without extra detours. Dinner and breakfast were amazing—beautifully prepared with local ingredients. It was one of the best meals I had during the trip. The host was incredibly kind and friendly , the washing machine & dryer was changed only 300 yen . highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone walking the Kumano Kodo. It’s a perfect place to rest and recharge.

Outstanding stopover

Most people pass this town on the way to Chikatsuyu, don’t be one of them. Staying here will brighten your outlook and fill your eyes and stomach w amazing things. The owner and his wife are the nicest most accommodating people we’ve met in Japan. Their place overlooks a gorgeous mtn valley town with smoky hills in the background, and he is the most amazing cook. The best meals we’ve had anywhere so far in Japan have been here. He lovingly cooks super delicious , healthy food and lots of it. All presented beautifully. Room was so thoughtfully equipped w coffe beans and grinder and drip system.

By far the best accommodation. The breakfast and dinner were the best of all meals on the walk. The facility was clean and comfortable. The host was gracious.
