Private retreat
After 4 days of hiking, this was an idyllic spot to gear up for the final day. The energetic Mrs. Naoko picked us up from a lovely little cafe and shop in Koguchi and zipped us to this quaint little house by a babbling brook. Hot showers, a washing machine to clean our filthy smelly kit, and a hearty dinner of venison curry (including seconds!). The next morning we were keen for an early start so we could enjoy the wonders at trail's end, and Mrs. Naoko cheerfully served up breaky at 6am and had us hiking by 6:30. What a star.

Very friendly host picked us up in Koguchi and drove us to accommodation which was about 10 minutes out of town. Older accommodation on small property beside a babbling brook. Host prepared a lovely venison curry for supper, western breakfast and bento box lunch. A lovely quiet retreat that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Grandfather's House
I feel extremely lucky to have secured lodging in Koguchi as it is a small village with a lot of Kumano Kodo travelers passing through. This home was the host's grandfather's house. It has been lovingly kept and expertly updated and expanded by the host's carpenter father. There is a palpable sense of life and memories in the house. The host picking me up and dropping me off at the trailhead was invaluable. The house is tucked up in the cooler hills. Sleeping with the cool air and hearing the birds was a great way to fall asleep.

Amazing!
Beautiful house in the middle of nowhere. Need a stop before doing the komugotori goe. Was amazing. It specially good if you are a big group. Naoko ( if I remember her name correctly ) is amazing. She picked me up from Koguchi when my legs were more than tired.

Little house on the mountain
Host picked us up from town and drove us up to the guest house. Very friendly and kind host ( I believe it's Naoko but I might be completely wrong). Guest house is very cozy with some cute artwork on the wall. Curry with deer meat was incredible and homey. Breakfast was light and energizing while lunch helped us keep moving over the last pass and down to Nachisan Falls. I would also go back to this town just to experience it all over again.

Amazing Valley
The accommodation was a little off the trail, but we were shuttled to and from the trail by the owner The accommodation is an amazing valley filled with streams and Greenfields backed by huge mountains

Peaceful, beautiful location
Our host Naoko picked us up from Koguchi village and drove us out to her beautiful home set in a valley looking up to the mountains. The property is set on a stream so it was lovely to finish the hike and soak our feet in the cool waters of the stream that ran through her property. The house was a traditional Japanese house which has renovated kitchen, bathroom and toilet and the onsen was beautiful to soak in. Meals were delicious with a simple venison curry for dinner and delicious English style breakfast. Naoko made our bento box for lunch which was very tasty also. Beautiful place and lovely host who made us feel right at home.
