Ryokan Adumaya
Located right in the center of Yunomine Onsen, this is an exceptional ryokan. As soon as you step inside, you immediately feel like you're entering a historic building that has kept all the charm of ancient and traditional Japan. The meals were delicious and generous. The staff was warm and welcoming, taking real pleasure in sharing the history of the place with us. The onsen is outstanding and truly makes you feel like you are traveling back in time.

Halfway Treat
At the end of day 3, after the longest trekking day and just past the overall halfway mark, decided to treat ourselves to this traditional Ryokan. The outdoor onsen, although small, was beautifully situated, and really appreciated - we visited 3 times before and after dinner, and again prior to breakfast. Great to sooth the muscles. Our tatami mat room, "Kokutan", was enormous with our own veranda overlooking the main street where we enjoyed green tea. The kaiseki style meals for dinner and breakfast were delicious, and whilst much appreciated, almost too much to eat. Bus stops right outside so very easy for arriving from and departing to the trail. Thank you.

Right next to Yunomine Onsen! But the accommodation has a really lovely onsen of its own – especially the outdoor one surrounded by plants – so you don’t necessarily have to visit the ‘public bath’. I was ‘a bit overwhelmed’ by the many courses – but everything was presented in a very colourful and appetising way. And the food was served right in the room. I also picked up an umbrella from reception for the next day’s hike.

Lovely Ryokan
Staying at a Ryokan was a new experience for us, a cultural experience we really enjoyed. Yunomina Onsen is also a great village and a very please place to stay.

Most wonderful end to the Kumano Kodo
The inn is located in a quaint little town of Yunomine which is famous for being home to one of Japan's oldest hot springs - it was discovered 1800 years ago! Right across the street you have Tsuboyu which is the only World Heritage Onsen in the world and is a must try experience if staying here. If you feel like you need any more onsen time, the hot springs at the inn are also excellent with two outdoor and two indoor springs. The food at Adumaya was a highlight of my 3 week trip in Japan. The dinner was incredibly generous, featuring delicious eel sushi, different kinds of soups, and an outstanding beef hot pot amongst other things. The rice, cooked in onsen water, was a unique touch. The hospitality here is second to none. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful really making the stay feel special. In the morning I missed my bus to get back to Osaka, and one of the receptionists offered to drive me 30 minutes to catch up to it. Highly recommend.

Nice but Dated
This was probably our least favorite stay of the trek. The room was spacious but old and dated. The outdoor onsen was nice but the showers and indoor bath seemed unclean--there were gnats flying around the showers and it all looked and felt very mildewy. Dinner was traditional kaiseki and the food was plentiful.

Wonderful food, onsen, service and ambiance
We had trouble getting a good night’s sleep on the traditional beds and pillows. But we still appreciated being able to experience a part of history. Excellent service from the helpful and dedicated staff.

Great location and onsen
We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is an old building and needs a little updating, but the room was beautiful and the service was great. The onsen was very relaxing.
