Nice house

The room was spacious and clean. I really enjoyed my stay there. I'd especially like to thank a grandpa who lives nearby. I was asking him if there were any vending machines nearby. I don't speak Japanese. All of a sudden, it started raining, so grandpa drove us to the vending machine. I met him the next morning and I tried to say thanks in Japanese: 昨日本当に助かりました、ありがとうございました。 Maybe I didn't pronounce it correctly, he looked a bit confused at first, hahaha... Anyway, thanks, grandpa.

Difficult check-in and poor communication

Sen. Retreat was supposed to send a code 3 days prior to arrival. However, I never received it, even after multiple attempts in chatting to Sen. Retreat and to Kumano Kodo Travel agency in MyChat. When we arrived early, the cleaning staff just finished up and were about to leave. We asked if we could store our heavy backpacks and they put them in our room and locked it all. Then, I tried to get into the plywood booth that serves as check-in. At first, the touch pad wouldn't work and I couldn't even get into the booth. Then, it opened up and I tried to register. Well, passports were needed, but they were locked away in our backpacks. After multiple video calls and repeated registration with frantically finding a picture of our passport in our files, we finally received the building and room codes. This was a 2-hour ordeal in the hot sticky booth. The customer service staff did not clearly describe that the building code is different than the room code. Pre-registration was supposed to be done online, but I never received the email. Apparently, it is a communication problem between Kumano Kodo Travel and Sen. Retreat. The room was sparse, but we appreciated the cold drinks in the fridge. Dinner was good, but breakfast was bad. 4 dry bread rolls, 1 butter paddy, and a squeeze bottle of jam. My recommendation to the host is to hire a person to assist with check-in. We were not the only guests that had trouble checking in.

Day one

I loved the Takahara location. The house was wonderful, the mats soft, the view breathtaking. The food was ok….. breakfast of many rolls was not really our thing. Check in was simple and everything was spotless.

Very new accommodation, clean and neat!

It was a pity that the weather was bad otherwise we could have used all the great facilities to BBQ and sit outside!

The accommodations were very nice, but the check-in process was one of our worst experiences. It was raining and the internet connection kept disconnecting during check-in.
