Wonderful Experience
Mandy is a wonderful host who deeply cares about making it a great experience for her guests. We loved it. Very comfortable. She was with us most the evening... took us to Yunomine Onsen upon arrival and then we booked Acupuncture with her which was such a treat! Meals were amazing. Thank you Mandy!! We'd love to return.

Very convenient for exploring Hongu area
After two-hour walk from Akagi-goe with heavy packs, we were glad to drop the loads at SOLA and wandered around, enjoyed the scenery and meals. The baths at SOLA worked well. The dip in Sosei-no-Yu did the magic to smooth the tired body. Mandy-san's hospitality is truly appreciated.

Felt like coming home
Mandy was the absolute best host that we had during our entire stay in Japan. Her wonderful energy, warmth and hospitality was above and beyond. The accommodation is a 5-minute walk from the Hongu Taisha, and located just on a residential street that added to the home-y feel of this stay. The accommodation had 2 rooms, which was perfect for us, two couples traveling together. Meals were served in an adjacent room, and there is a private toilet, wash basin and shower/tub area used only by us. Mandy was kind enough to drive us to the Wataraze Onsen area, helped us to get private outdoor onsen baths, and then picked us up, then served us a delicious hot pot dinner. Mandy's dedication to serving us healthy food is so impressive. We avoid gluten, so she had gluten free soy sauce available to us. She even goes to get onsen water to use to cook with (lugging a large water container back and forth to her car), and sourced beautiful free range, organic eggs for our breakfast. Mandy is also a licensed chiropractor and acupuncturist. She didn't push her services onto us, but we saw it on her profile page, so we asked about it. She had a successful practice in Tokyo before she moved to the Hongu area. She treated two of us, and it was so incredible that we traveled back to the Hongu Taisha area to have her treat the other two of us the following day. Her chiropractic services are nothing like Western treatments, but incredibly gentle, first slowly assessing the body misalignments, then easing our bodies back into proper form. I believe that Mandy incorporated some magical Reiki techniques too, but I'm not an expert. We just know that we felt amazing afterwards. She suggested stretches (and other self-care options) for to us to help to keep our bodies healthy and happy. Following this, Mandy dropped us off. She didn't ask to be paid for the car shuttling services, but we gave her money because gasoline is expensive (and you should too). We would all go back again to the Hongu area just to see Mandy. We truly hope to cross paths with Mandy again, and we even offered to welcome her into our homes in Los Angeles. Thank you for an incredible, memorable experience. You're one of a kind, Mandy!

Mandy is the owner of this guesthouse. The place is a short walk (10mins) from Hangu Taisha. Very proactive in communication and a gracious host. Provided transportation to and from various onsen around the area. Dropped us in a convenience store. We had an excellent shabu shabu dinner with lots of vegetables and tender pork. Breakfast was also good. Packed lunch was adequate.

A home away from home
Mandy-san was an amazing host! She was super friendly and conveniently located near Kumano Hongu Taisha, which I highly recommend for anyone exploring the region or hiking the Kumano Kodo path. Mandy was an excellent communicator and gave us great options for our time in the area. She even went above and beyond by offering to pick us up, making dinner reservations at a local restaurant, bringing us to the grocery store to resupply, and even offered to drive us to a tattoo-friendly onsen/hot springs we could enjoy. Our stay allowed us to rest and recharge right near Kumano Hongu Taisha and Oyunahara sites, which was great because we didn’t have to rush to the sites after a long travel day. She also had friendly English labels across the home so we were familiar with different aspects of staying in a Japanese-style home. And guess what? She’s also a wonderful cook, which is definitely a bonus! I would highly suggest staying at SOLA when visiting the Kumano Hongu region!
