Kumano hike
Really liked this place. A superb vegetarian meal is a lovely break in Japan. Owner is so helpful and spontaneously offered a lift at the start of the trek to avoid the steep walk up the road.

New place (as of writing), great stay
New: I believe the host started hosting around 6 months ago, and they're doing a great job. They clearly take great pride in the details of the place: the common area, the mattresses in the tatami-style rooms, and the meals. Shared space allows for new encounters: this happened to be my second night on the trail and my first night in the same accommodation as another traveler, Todd. We talked together over dinner at a shared table, hiked the next few days together, became friends, and exchanged contact information. I'm so glad Vegestay allowed me to get to know another pilgrim!

Vegestay Nonaka is a cosy 3-bed guesthouse which offers delicious food. Nao-san was so friendly, helpful and attentive, it was a joy being his guests! The bedroom was so comfortable, I slept so well, and there is a comfy common area to lounge in also after the long hike of Day 2. I loved our vegetarian dinner so much as well as the breakfast the next day. Nao-san was so attentive, he ran out to the bus stop the next day after we had checked out as one of us had left something in the room. A big plus also is that use of the laundry and dryer is free, it was so good to have clean clothing to pack into our suitcases. It is easily located off the trail and the bus to the trailhead for the next morning's hike is just 2 minutes from the guesthouse. Thank you, Nao-san!

Vegestay Nonaka
The house was lovely and the host was wonderful. We loved the vegetarian food. We really appreciated the car transport to the start of the trail the next day, as the accomodation is at the bottom of a steep hill Communication was difficult because we did not have a contact number so it was hard to find the property, and let the host know we would arrive early.

Beautiful place to stay
The meals were vegetarian. They were excellent and very delicious. The host was very kind, he showed us all the amenities from the house and where to find water, tea of coffee. A great and beautiful place to stay if you are doing the Kumano Kodo path.
