Amazing Stay and Hosts

Our favorite stay of the entire trip. Such nice and friendly hosts that made us feel at home. Communicative, friendly, and helpful - we had a lovely time getting to know them and staying in their guest-house. The guest-house is also a very thoughtfully refinished space with a great view and comfortable for tall people (196cm). The dinner we had hit the spot. Cannot recommend more!

Awesome

I'm sorry for leaving this review so late, but I'm truly grateful to Kimi's family for their warm hospitality, the wonderful home, and the absolutely delicious food.

Absolutely amazing. This was the best lodging we had in Japan. The hosts took us to the onsen they go to and showed us their rice field by the giant torri gate. Very kind and welcoming. The location is perfect, right where the Kohechi pops out in to Yakio and a short walk from the finish in Hongu

Great place to stay

Highly recommend. Stayed here after day 3 of 3 on kumano kodo. Tone arranged to pick us up from the bus stop and drove us the short distance to his home. After we rested a bit he prepared a delicious BBQ and took us with him to a nearby onsen after. Location is close to 'center' of Hongu but out of the way enough that its very natural and peaceful. Tone and his wife Kimi are a pleasure.

Beautiful Self-Contained Cabin

Yakio House is outside of town but well worth the short trip (made even easier as my host collected me in Hongu). It was a luxury to have so much space and a private bathroom. Hosts were helpful and very friendly. I would also have to say the hotpot and lunchbox were both among the best meals on my trek.

Nice apartment with nice view

Nice apartment with nice view. Incredibly helpful and friendly hosts. Minuses were just a bit inconvenient location when coming from Hongu. And probably don't stay here it you don't like spiders 😀

Wonderful way to finish the Kumano Kodo

This was our final accommodation after completing the Nakahechi in Kumano Hongu Taisha, and it was absolutely amazing! The couple that runs YAKIOHOUSE is super nice, and we loved everything about our stay. Some highlights: - The house is about a 10-minute drive from the Hongu Taisha-mae bus stop, so they picked us up from the stop and dropped us back the next morning for our return bus to Kii-Tanabe. They prefer finalizing the pickup time via WhatsApp, so if you're an international visitor without a Japanese phone number, we'd recommend setting the app up **before** you visit Japan. - YAKIOHOUSE is a beautiful home that felt clean, cozy, and well-designed. We were charmed by its interior design, and its location away from the main town made it feel nice and secluded. There's no bathtub, but the shower is really nice, so no complaints there. Also the futons we slept on were super cozy and probably our favorite bedding of our entire Japan trip. - The meals were fantastic. Both dinner and breakfast were brought over to the house by the couple that runs the place, and the presentation and taste were top-notch. We chose the hot pot dinner option, and it really hit the spot after hiking 15+ miles. On top of that, we learned the rice that accompanied the meal had actually been grown by the YAKIOHOUSE owners; it was so good! - We loved interacting with the YAKIOHOUSE owners and their kids. We had some nice conversations about why they moved to the Hongu area and what it's like living in small town. They also gifted us some postcards and towels that they had personally designed, which was pretty cool. These personal interactions were a nice touch that made our stay even more memorable. Overall, we loved our stay at YAKIOHOUSE and wholeheartedly recommend it to other travelers!
