Accommodations

Staying in traditional style accommodations is one of the joys of travelling in the area, especially in a hot spring village where you can soak in healing mineral waters and dine on fresh local cuisine. There are different sets of rules than at a western style hotel, but with a little bit of preparation and practice it can be a rewarding experience.

Owase

Minshuku

Minshuku Huuhan is a friendly, down-to-earth (sea!) guesthouse in Owase, the main city on the east coast of the Kii-Hanto Peninsula.  It is located next to the harbor so guests can experience the local lifestyle of the fishermen.  In fact, the owners have deep fisherman roots and are passionate about serving world-class seafood caught locally.  The building is reformed with modern Japanese lines (and a bit of fun!), but still preserves the older beams and architecture of the original structure.  It is an enjoyable mix of old and new-age Japanese design.  This is a good base for walkers, with easy access to the Kumano Kodo Iseji route, the Yakiyama-toge pass to the south and Magose-toge Pass to the north.

■Closed: Sunday.
■Minshuku Huuhan can only accept reservations within 2 months in advance.
Thank you for your understanding.

Mikisato, Owase

Minshuku, Guesthouse/B&B

This cozy guest house is a renovated 150-year-old former kimono store in rural Owase not far from the Kumano Kodo Iseji route. Guests can enjoy the mix of old and new wooded scents and, not far away, hear the waves of the Pacific Ocean lapping on the shore. Ms. Hirayama, one of the owners, has studied abroad in the United States, speaks English well, and is a marine sports instructor. The house has a comfortable, relaxing, community atmosphere and is a great place to refresh. Only one group is booked to stay a day.
Meals are bento boxes delivered from "Bento no Mise Shiohama" operated by her husband’s family.

For more information about marine sports activities with the owners:
■ Notes ■
Even if only one group is booked to stay per day, please note that the outdoor shower and common space are shared with marine sports participants.

This inn is an "agriculture, forestry and fishery experience guest house," so all plans come with a story about the Kumano Kodo from the owner at check-in.

Guesthouse/B&B

Right in front of the sea.
Open the window and the gentle sound of the waves will surround your day.

Conveniently located as a base for exploring the Iseji route of the Kumano Kodo, our small family-run guesthouse is about a 15-minute walk from the station. It is a place where nature and everyday life exist in comfortable harmony.

We love talking with people, but we also value giving our guests the space to relax at their own pace. Enjoy a quiet and comfortable stay while still feeling the warmth of a welcoming home.

The building is a traditional Japanese house that has been carefully renovated using recycled and reclaimed materials, along with natural elements. The result is a nostalgic and calming space that feels both simple and warm.

Our futons, known for their comfort, are paired with linen made from natural materials. We also use environmentally friendly detergents and shampoos that are designed to break down easily in the ocean.

Inside the guesthouse, there are two kitchens:
one used for preparing meals for guests, and another private mini-kitchen for guest use.

The guest mini-kitchen is a private space that you are free to use during your stay, making it ideal for self-catering or longer stays.

Our meals are prepared with a focus on organic ingredients whenever possible, and we carefully select our seasonings to create dishes that are gentle on the body.

We are especially experienced in preparing vegan and vegetarian meals, and we are happy to adapt to different dietary styles and preferences. Please feel free to consult us in advance.

The sea, nature, and people.

If you feel like taking a deep breath somewhere along your journey, we hope this will be the place where you can pause, relax, and simply be.

This is not a private rental house. The host uses the kitchen to prepare and serve meals for guests.

Only one guest group per day is accepted.

As this accommodation is registered as a Farm-Stay (Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Experience Guesthouse), guests who have time are welcome to join a short guided visit to the Mikisato Showa Museum.
