Minpaku Kodo is a family home that was re-purposed into a guesthouse. This home is in a residential development around 5 minutes south of the entrance to the Daimon-zaka section of the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. It is a two story building with Japanese style guestrooms on the second floor and a western style guestroom with bunk bed on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a kitchen, toilet, bath and communal sitting area. There are no meals, but instant food and snacks are for sale. The owner is very interested in visitors and what they think of the area, so much that she is studying English at a local conversation school! She often offers to drive guests to nearby spots such as the closest supermarket.

Guesthouse Michi is a fully renovated private guesthouse for one group per day located just a 40-minute walk from the Daimon-zaka trailhead. This modern home features a Japanese and western bedroom for up to a total of 5 guests, perfect for families or groups seeking privacy and comfort after a day on the ancient pilgrimage trails. While no meals are included, the owners can drive guests to a local store for groceries. The owner of Guesthouse Michi actually grew up in this house and has fond memories walking to elementary school near Daimon-zaka every day, years before it became a World Heritage site. Now, with 10 years of experience in local tourism and a deep love for this hometown, the owner is honored to welcome guests from all over the world to this place they're so proud to call home.

The owners also run Moss House in Shingu, allowing them to support your Kumano journey from both the Nachi and Shingu areas.

Description

Mitaki Sanso has the privilege of being the only accommodation on Nachisan, located just below the Kumano Nachi Taisha and Seiganto-ji Temple.

"Mitaki 美滝" means "beautiful waterfall", and "Sanso 山荘" can be translated as "mountain villa, mountain retreat, or mountain cottage", is an appropriate name for this lodging in the mountains with beautiful views of the Nachi waterfall, at 133 meters, the tallest in Japan and worshipped as a deity.

Meals feature local produce in dishes, highlighting the seafood from the nearby Pacific coast.

It is a convenient base for walkers on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route who are starting or finishing the Ogumotori-goe section.

Being located on Nachisan has lent a sort of austere feeling to this accommodation in regards to simplicity and rules, as it often hosts pilgrims to the area. Please familiarize yourself with Japanese etiquette before you arrive. Also, be sure to check in by 18:00 at the latest.
