MUI is an older home lovely reformed into a cozy guesthouse steps away from the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route about 15 minutes walk east of Tsugizakura-oji. The owner moved to the area because of her love of the mountains and desire to live a rural lifestyle and was inspired to create a place of communication and exchange for pilgrims after her walk on the Way of St. James in Spain. The first thing that guests will notice is the location: a small set of homes, interspersed with tiny, terraced fields surrounded by towering cedars and cypress trees. The second is her pet goats! There are two Japanese-style guestrooms on the second floor with a communal sitting area, bath, and toilet on the first floor. A small yard in front of the house offers a quiet place to sit and relax. Home-made meals are served in the dining area, a renovated building next to the house.

◆ NOTE ◆
From January 2022, guests who would like an early check-in time (13: 00-15: 00), will be charged 1,000 yen per room to be paid at check-in. Thanks for your understanding. If you wish to do so, please indicate so in the remarks column on the booking form.
|

Guesthouse Housen is a new, bright, friendly accommodation between Chikatsuyu and Nonaka, built in 2022. The name "Housen" (pronounced "hoh-sen") can be translated to mean "boat of abundance" and relates to Ebisu, one of the Japanese Seven Lucky Gods, whose figure often graces restaurants and inns. The owners certainly hope their guests feel an abundance of relief and relaxation.
This inn is perfect for small groups. Three western-style rooms available.
The family who owns the inn transplanted after running a yakitori-style izakaya restaurant for 30 years in Wakayama City to start their own inn and cafe in the Kumano area.
Although plans include two or three meals, guests can also relax and enjoy light food and drinks from the "N.S. Cafe" next door run by the owner's son including a special homemade pudding (The pudding is available to guests for free with dinner at the accommodation). There are refrigerators with free bottled drinks on the guest room floors that are free-use. There is also a workout gym in an adjacent building with full weights and exercise bikes free to staying guests. |

The guesthouse Mori Nonaka is a rustic, convenient inn located along the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route near historical Tsugizakura sites. It is run by a family who fell in love with Kumano’s natural beauty and warmth and renovated a traditional country home to provide a cozy and welcoming accommodation. Famed sites like Toganoki-jaya teahouse, Tsugizakura-oji shrine with towering 800-year-old cedar trees, and the refreshing Nonaka-no-Shimizu spring. There are two rooms available, so with a warm futon and two meals plus a lunch box, this inn could suit either Kumano Kodo pilgrims or those staying for a longer retreat. |
