Unique Container Cottages

Opening April 20, 2026 — SEN.RETREAT HONGU is the newest addition to the SEN.RETREAT family, nestled just 2.4 km from the iconic Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine. Set deep within the ancient landscapes of Kumano, these container cottages offer a modern sanctuary where the sacred and the natural meet.

Each cottage is designed for up to two people with simplicity at its core — two comfortable beds, shower, and toilet. Supper is a delivered, catered bento box in the evening, and breakfast items are already stocked on the property. A dedicated pathway leads directly to the river's edge, where the sounds of flowing water and the embrace of untouched nature invite you to slow down, breathe, and simply be.

Together with SEN.RETREAT TAKIJIRI, TAKAHARA, and CHIKATSUYU — tracing the path from Takijiri-oji — as well as SEN.HAVEN NAKAMURA and SEN.HAVEN SAKURAI in Koguchi, the SEN. series offers a complete journey through the deep quietude of Kumano, where each stay becomes a moment of renewal for body and mind.

FISH STOCK: Often being able to eat trace amounts of the ubiquitous Katsuo Dashi (fish stock) makes it easier to find vegetarian options.
