Minshuku Nakano is a family-run guesthouse located in the southern part of Chikatsuyu village.  Originally it was frequented by fishermen looking to catch the delicious Ayu sweetfish that thrive in the nearby Hiki-gawa river (the owner is an avid fisherman himself), but they have opened their home and hearts to walkers and pilgrims on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route.  It is located 10 minutes on foot from the Chikatsuyu-oji.

Minshuku Wago is conveniently located inn a minute's walk from Chikatsuyu-oji shrine. The name "Wago" translates literally as "peaceful meeting" and reflects the owner's wish for guests to relax, interact and create once-in-a-lifetime memories. The owner hails from Osaka originally, but has lived in Canada and China, and fascinated with the Kumano Kodo decided to open an inn in Chikatsuyu along the Kumano Kodo. The building, once a small local factory, has been transformed into a comfortable, refreshing accommodation. There are Western and Japanese-style rooms and a dormitory. For dinner, guests can be treated to Osaka-style specialty "okonomiyaki," a pan-fried meal with batter, cabbage and other ingredients. Minshuku Wago is a great option for Kumano pilgrims.

Yamazakura Annex

Yamazakura Annex is part of the Chikatsuyu Cherry Garden “Sakura-no-Sono” set of houses on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route on the west side of Chikatsuyu village, the first buildings on the left when entering the village.

It is a renovated two story house with shared facilities on the first floor.  The three guestrooms are different sizes and a combination of western and Japanese style.

Next to the guest house are terraced fields planted with cherry trees, from which the name of the accommodation is derived:  Yamazakura means "mountain cherry".  From this vantage point guests have a view of the village. 

Meals are a combination of a delivery and handmade dishes for supper, and breakfast at a local café.

Minshuku Momiji-no-Sato

Momiji-no-Sato is a small rental house at the east end of the sleepy main street of Chikatsuyu village, directly on the Kumano Kodo route. 

This reformed house has a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bath and toilet.  A large wooden table is the center of the living space.

There are two bicycles for free use to cruise around the village.

Meals are supplied by the Hashiori-jaya cafe near the Chikatsuyu-oji.  Check-in is also done here. 

Supper is a bento style delivered to the accommodation, breakfast is served at the cafe where the lunch box is given to guests.

Private Rental: Only one booking per day.  If you reserve this rental house you do not share it with others.

Guest House SUN is a convenient, renovated rental house option in the scenic settlement of Chikatsuyu. It was opened by the owner of Hitotoki in Nonaka and is located about 10 minutes' walk from Chikatsuyu-oji on the Kumano Kodo. It is a quiet and private rental house with only 1 group booking per day. It has two bedrooms, each with their own bath and toilet, perfect for families and small groups hiking the Kumano Kodo. While no meal plans are offered, the A-Coop grocery store is just a few hundred meters away. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen facilities on site. 

■ NOTE: There are no places to get food between Nonaka and Hongu areas. All stores Chikatsuyu area close at 18:00. Guests should be prepared in advance.

Happiness Chikatsuyu is a cottage owned by the lovely Ms. Muya.  It is located in a small grove of trees just north of the Kumano Kodo in Chikatsuyu village next to the Hiki-gawa River.  The cozy cottage has a Japanese-style room, small loft, dining room, and kitchen.  The dining room features a giant wooden table.  The windows look onto the surrounding garden planted with a variety of flowering trees.  Guests often enjoy sitting on the deck or in the private gazebo taking in the peaceful location. 

The three annex buildings (Ken-chan, Masaki and Chii-chan) are named after Ms. Muya's grandchildren.  They were built in a corner of the property near the river surrounded by Japanese maple trees.  These three annex buildings are identical and each have two Japanese-style rooms, two sinks and toilet. The guestrooms are divided by sliding fusuma doors.  As with the main Happiness Chikatsuyu cabin, it is a private rental, there is only one booking per day.

There are two bicycles for each of the four buildings that are free to use, convenient for a cruise around town, or to visit the nearby grocery store to buy food. 

Ms. Muya wishes to share her little piece of paradise with you.  Welcome and fill yourself with "Happiness Chikatsuyu."
