The food is so nice that we almost cried when eating after a 7 hours walking. Strongly recommend a dinner, breakfast and lunch box full package.

Review: Kumano kodo trekking

The hardest section to walk of Kumano Kodo is from Koguchi to Nachi.
But we had lot of strength because of the good sleep and the good food of Minshuku Momofuku.

The room, with separate tea room was spacious. I enjoyed the food. In the morning, the proprietor very kindly drove me back to the river crossing so that I could get a missed stamp in my Camino booklet. On the negative: the bath was small and luke warm. Also there was very bright light in the hall outside the room which, shining through the paper screens, made sleeping difficult. I could not find the switch to turn off the light. This is something that could easily be remedied.

Thank you for your comments. We apologize for any inconvenience with the light in the hallway. This is an emergency light and must be added to any accommodation by law. It is made so that it cannot be shut off. The accommodation is traditional Japanese style with paper sliding doors. The owner is aware of the light, but unfortunately because of laws and the way the house is designed, it is not possible to entirely shut out the light.

If I were able give the food - breakfast, dinner and bento box lunch - ten stars, I would. Simply the best meals I had in Japan. And the guestbook at the property is full of comments of people who say the same thing.

I was the only guest at the property the night I stayed, so it was peaceful and quiet with plenty of room. The futon in the tatami room was very comfy, and the room was heated (freezing outside). The hosts were the best combination of friendly and curious and leaving you to yourself.

My only (small issue) was that there was a very bright fluorescent light on outside the tatami room which was unable to be switched off, and which the paper screen walls did nothing to shade. I'm a light sleeper who needs a room to be very dark to get to sleep, and I had some troubles. I eventually managed to hang a blanket up to get some dark.

Review: Highly recommended! I want to go back to the area just for this place.

We instantly loved the place.
We were warmly welcomed into a traditional Japanese home by a lovely couple that took great pride in being the perfect hosts.
They prepared amazing meals, we had a huge area all to ourselves and the hosts went above and beyond to make our stay special.
This place honestly was one of the highlights of our trip.

Review: Welcome Refuge, lovely hosts

An oasis while walking the Kumano Kodo. We have stayed with Mr. & Mrs. Nakazawa twice now, in Dec 2013 and Dec 2016. Both times we were welcomed with friendly smiles, a warm clean comfortable room and delightful food. Highly recommended.
