Excellent service and friendly reception. The personality of our host with his hearty good natured laugh was a memorable feature of our stay here. Food was excellent and we appreciated the inclusion of foods that were familiar to the western taste. I enjoyed the free beer! Koguchi is paradise and the scenery along the river's edge is breathtaking.

Review: Great food and host!

We really loved staying at Momofuko! The place is simple but clean and cozy, the host really nice and the food great! It almost feels like being at some relative house! They did our laundry, cooked us an amazing dinner and walked us to the bus station the morning after. I can't reccomend it more!

The hosts were cheerful and hospitable. Mr Nakazawa was generous in sharing his experience around the area. Food was good, although I would prefer less or no ajinomoto to be used as both the other guest and I felt very thirsty after the meal. Have feedback to the owners.

Review: Minshuku Momofuku

After a long day of walking we arrived in Koguchi, wet, cold and very sore. We were met at the front by a local reporter, interviewed (still being rained on) and then finally welcomed into the accommodation. I think in the confusion with having a reporter on the scene, we got shown as far as our room and no further. No information was given about when dinner was, where the bathroom was ect.

Dinner was excellent, a traditional Japanese set with local produce. We had brought our own umeshu and the owner was happy to provide ice.

The rooms where large the futons comfortable, however (this was my biggest complaint), the light was left on the hallway which shines nice and bright through the screen doors into our room. Worse, there is no switch to turn it off. This cumulated into moving our futons into the front room just to get some sleep.

Reply from Minshuku Momofuku. ""Thank you very much for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay wasn't as positive an experience as it could have been. The reporter was from NHK, the Japanese national broadcasting corporation, doing a feature about the Kumano Kodo, and was wanting an interview with people that are walking the pilgrimage. We apologize for the confusion that this caused during check-in, as we are not used to dealing with media and their requests. In regards to the light in the hallway. Our house is old style Japanese, so some of the sliding doors are made of paper, which light can filter through. The light in the hallway is an emergency light, and by law, as a registered accommodation, we need to have this installed and lit for the safely of the guests. We understand and sympathize with your comment about the light, and are sorry that it disrupted your sleep. Thank you again for your feedback and once again we sincerely apologize.""

Review: Very friendly, english speaking operator

We loved the operator - he had some great stories and made a fantastic meal. One unique thing about this place is that he has 1 table for all the guests, whereas all other places seemed to sit us separately from the other guests. It was a great treat to sit and talk with the other guests during dinner.
