The best hosters ever, an amazing couple. The room and bath are ok, though the meals are unforgettable.

Review: Minshuku Momofuku

A simple, but very clean and welcoming country minshuku. The hosts were very hospitable and helpful. The meals are well prepared and plenty to eat (wonderful to have fresh fruit with all meals). Private bathroom (guests take turns) and very clean "drop" toilet. Thick warm futons for winter. More sign posts from the end of the trail from Hongu Taisha would be helpful.

Review: Fantastic stay at Minshuku Momofuku

After a long day on the trail, the welcome we received at Minshuku Momofuku was everything we needed. The proprietors were so gracious and made us feel like we were visiting two very welcoming relatives at their home. The food was so delicious and homey, the futons were like sleeping on a cloud, and the small hot bath was perfect for sore muscles. Minshuku Momofuku is definitely a worthwhile stay if hiking on the Kumano Kodo!

Review: Best Minshuku on the Kohechi!

Very friendly and helpful proprieters - we felt so welcomed. The husband even spoke a little English. The Minshuku was beautifully decorated inside and out. The sleeping room was fairly standard for what we encountered in these rural guest houses, but very comfortable and quiet (we were the only guests). Nice bath. Dinner and breakfast were really outstanding - delicious and so beautifully presented. We were also provided with a nice box lunch for our hike, and the owners washed our hiking clothes for us as well. Lovely stay!

Review: Friendly Minshuku

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The wife waved to us from the end of their street as soon as we got off at the bus stop which is very close. She must have been keeping an eye on all of the buses that stopped that afternoon! We were soaking wet from a typhoon-induced rain shower and she took all of our wet clothes and washed and hung them for us. The dinner was delicious, plentiful, and included very fresh sashimi. This is a traditional style Japanese house and would be a great experience for foreigners wanting to learn about Japanese living. It is a small place that only takes 4-5 guests per night. We were the only ones there so it was very quiet and private. Hide-san was a lot of fun to talk to and he knows some English.

Great food and very pleasant hosts. Make sure to get detailed directions on how to get from the first bridge to the Minshuku if you are walking from Hongu, the maps were not the clearest on this one. Fortunately, everyone in the village seems to know where it is. It has great access to the last leg of the hike.

Review: pleasant Momofuku

This is a very nice guesthouse along the Kumano Kodo road!
The owners are very warm, friendly and jovial people and tend to be a bit less formal than the average Japanese, which we appreciated a lot! They made us feel welcome and were enthousiastic to host us!
