Kumano Kodo-no-Yado Reimei Lodging House is located in the small village of Ukegawa at the confluence of the Oto river and Kumano-gawa, 3 kilometers south of the Hongu village townsite.

The large yellow sign is easy to spot! One the first floor is a Chinese restaurant and on the second floor are the three guestrooms.  It is a simple, basic, budget facility run by the cordial Mr. Nojiri.  The rooms are Japanese style, with shared bath and toilet facilities.  Famous dishes at the restaurant are gyoza dumplings using local Kumano beef, and Wakayama Ramen noodles.

The trailhead to the Kumano Kodo Kogumotori-goe section is nearby.  The Ukegawa bus stop is across the street so public busses are convenient to use.

Guesthouse noco is an older home in the small village of Hongu.  The quiet neighborhood is on a slope overlooking the Oyunohara shrine grounds, a short walk from the Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Kodo and heritage center.   There are three guestrooms.   The distictive feature about noco is the outdoor sitting area and bar-like kitchen.

Guest House Yui is a house in the Hongu village a few minutes walk from the Kumano Hongu Taisha and Kumano Hongu Heritage center in a quiet neighborhood on the hillside overlooking Oyunohara, the original shrine ground of Kumano Hongu Taisha.  The owners decided to start hosting guests here after they moved into their parents house next door and building was not being used.  It is a larger two story house with a Japanese style guestroom room on the first floor.  On the second floor is a western style room with twin beds and a guestroom with raised sleeping platform to lay out futons.  The comfortable living room, dining room, bath and toilet are all shared amongst guests.  There are no meals served, but instant foods and drinks are available onsite.  This is a convenient, relaxed accommodation in the Hongu area for those looking for a homestay-like experience.

Blue Sky Guesthouse is a guesthouse tucked into a small valley in the town of Hongu, close to the World Heritage Grand Shrine, Kumano Hongu Taisha. 

The young owner, Naoya Yamamoto, always dreamed of owning his own guesthouse.  When he travelled to other countries he received gracious hospitality from many people.  He now wants to give back into the karmic travellers’ cycle and create a place that welcomes visitors to fully experience the area. 

Each room has its own bath and toilet.  Visitors also have free access to the kitchen and internet.  For those walking the Kumano Kodo or looking for somewhere to stay for multiple nights, this accommodation is a popular choice.  Families also find the Blue Sky Guesthouse convenient.

At the end of a windy road, in the forested mountains of the Kii peninsula, is the simplistic Café and Guest House Engawa. This family of 7 lives in an old farmhouse, which they have renovated into a small café and guestroom. Much of the construction has been done by the owner and his children, including a classic iron, outdoor wood heated bath; a unique experience and a calm place to stargaze from! Ingredients are sources locally for their vegetarian focused meals. Goats, chickens, and a friendly dog also live on the property. The bio-toilet, washbasin, and bath are all shared with the family. This rustic home-stay farmhouse get-away is located off-the-beaten path, so for those without a vehicle a pick-up and drop-off service is provided from nearby locations such as Koguchi and Hongu

Kumano Mindful House "Hoshi-no-Jikan" is a rental house in the Hongu village near the Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, overlooking rice fields and the giant Torii gateway at the entrance to Oyunohara.  It is a two story house with guest rooms on the second floor (Western twin and Japanese style). On the first floor are sitting rooms, full kitchen, bath, toilets and meditation room.  Behind the house is a covered deck.  The goal of this property is to provide a mindful space for guests to internalize their experiences of the sacred Kumano area.
