Hotel Charmant is a small hotel very close to the JR Kii-Katsuura Station.  It has well maintained rooms and is a convenient base for visiting the area and for those beginning/ending a multi-day walk on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route to/from Hongu.  There are no evening meals so guests can explore the small restaurants which are famous for their fresh seafood close by.  The friendly owners do not speak any English, but are very hospitable to international visitors.

Minshuku Kosakaya is a family-run minshuku in Katsuura Onsen near the Kii-Katsuura station. 

The current owner is 4th generation, and it is the oldest running guesthouse in the village.  The current building opened in January 2015.  The facilities are new, but the atmosphere has an old-fashioned sense of rural hospitality.

The owner is a charismatic character. His infectious smile and joking nature makes for a memorable stay.  In fact he loves interacting with guests and wants everyone to feel like friends. 

The food is based on fresh, seasonal seafood and is well-liked for its local flare.

Minshuku Wakatake is a friendly, family-run hot spring guesthouse just across the footbridge behind Kii-Katsuura station.  Katsuura is a fishing port village famous for its tuna.  Minshuku Wakatake takes full advantage of this location next to the sea by serving fresh and delicious seafood all year round.  They are especially proud of their grilled tuna cheek or collar, a local delicacy, and are highly rated on various review sites.  If you are a connoisseur of Japanese sake, make sure to sample their extensive collection of local brew with the master willing to explain each bottle. Menus and sake information are available in English. The owner believes in saving the best of the old, incorporating new ideas, and connecting with future generations to come.

There is also a public restaurant on the first floor with Kumano-themed ingredients!

For guests who applying for the "No meals plan" and "Breakfast plan".  Meals are available at the cafe-restaurant "Kumano-no-Mezame" attached to the inn (for an additional charge).

Hotel Urashima is a central feature of Katsuura Onsen sitting prominently on the east side of Katsuura Bay on a rugged peninsula jutting out into the Pacific Ocean.  This hotel complex is composed of four separate buildings (Honkan, Nisshokan, Nagisakan, & Sanjokan) connected by a network of tunnels, elevators and escalators. Guestrooms, especially in the Sanjokan, offer excellent panoramic views. Numerous souvenir shops, karaoke bars, and game centers line the halls. To help guests explore this labyrinth, color coded lines are set into the floor.

Hot spring baths are scattered throughout the facility including the famous Bokido, a natural hot spring bath in a cave overlooking the ocean.

The buffet meals are extensive and sometimes include entertaining Tuna filleting shows. 

Even with the large size of this hotel, there is always a quiet spot or hot spring bath to escape to for people that what to relax.

 ● Construction Details: Complete renovation of guest rooms, lobby, buffet restaurant, etc., with full closure of Nisshōkan Building
 ● Closed Facilities: During this period, the large public baths "Iso no Yu" and "Genbudo" in Nisshōkan will not be available.

   * The MainBuilding entrance will be closed during the construction period. The 1st floor of Nagisakan will serve as the arrival and departure point for the shuttle boat and shuttle bus, and check-in will be handled at the Nisshōkan Center Front Desk.

Oyado Hana Guesthouse

Oyado Hana Guesthouse is an older building lovely transformed into a comfortable guesthouse by the young Ms. Saho Hanai.  The name of the guesthouse comes from her nickname "Hana-chan" when she was living in Osaka.  "Oyado" means "lodging" in Japanese.  This cute accommodation is carefully decorated with pieces of art collected by the owner and received as presents from guests (including modern art bamboo installations!).  The entrance is tucked away off of the street in a Japanese garden, with a large wooden sign above the door inscribed with the Japanese characters of the inn.  It is located conveniently near the Kii-Katsuura station, in close proximity to a variety of restaurant choices.  Ms. Saho Hanai loves travelling and wishes that her guests feel like Oyado Hana Guesthouse is their cozy home away from home!

Manseiro Ryokan is a located on the edge of Katsuura Bay across from the tourist pier, within walking distance of the Kii-Katsuura station.  The building itself is older but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.  The traditional Japanese Kaiseki meals, with a focus on fresh local products, is a highlight of a stay at Manseiro.  There are both Japanese and Western style rooms.  There are hot spring baths in the facility, but guests can also take the ferry across to the neighboring Hotel Urashima and soak there for free, including the famous Bokido onsen cave bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Kumano-Bettei Nakanoshima is a seaside Ryokan located on a private island in Katsuura Bay accessed via a short ferry ride from the tourist pier.  There are two buildings: Naginosho (10 rooms) and Chomontei (31 rooms).

One of the highlights of staying in Nakanoshima is the large outdoor bath overlooking the bay.  The sounds of waves on the rocks nearby, while watching the sunset over the mountains, is a wonderful experience. 

Meals include local, fresh, delicious seafood. 

There is a walking trail to a lookout point on the top of the forest covered island with beautiful views of the rugged coastline.  Along the way is a hot spring foot bath where you can sit, relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.

Nachi-Katsuura Kyukamura is a hotel located on the rugged Ugui peninsula near Katsuura.   It is perched above the dramatic, rocky coastline, 60 meters above sea level offering wonderful views. The property is part of the National Park Resort network, famous for begin situated in beautiful natural settings.  This hotel is in the Yoshino-Kumano National Park just down the road from the National Park Visitor Center run by the Ministry of Environment.  There is a selection of rooms including Japanese, Western and mixed.  Soaking in the well designed onsen baths, with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, are a highlight of a stay, especially at sunrise.  Meals are based on fresh, local seafood and served in the dining room.  There are short walks nearby the hotel and free shuttle service to/from the Kii-Katsuura station. This facility is also a convenient base for whale watching from March to September.

Nachi-Katsuura Kyukamura can only accept reservations 6 months or less in advance. Thank you for your understanding.

Why Kumano is a convenient hostel accommodation with bar and café in front of the Kii-Katsuura train station.  It is housed in a narrow three-story building. The first floor is the Bodai restaurant (not directly associated with the guesthouse).  On the second floor is the hostel.  Currently there is one private room rental (2nd floor) and mixed gender dorm room (third floor).  There is a common room space that looks out onto the station area.  Drinks including local craft beer and sake are for sale.  The managers are friendly with a wealth of local information.  The open steel rafters and unfinished plywood and concrete floors makes a modernist, raw construction-like atmosphere.

 

Only guests 12 and older are accepted.

JIYUJIYA is a recently renovated building turned into a bright, friendly co-working space and guesthouse in Kii-Katsuura. The owner's father once ran a musical instruments store there, but now the building has turned into a space where the owner hopes visitors and locals can make connections and friendships. The 1st floor is now a co-working space, the 2nd floor a shared space with a kitchen that is free-use for guests, and 3rd floor has guest rooms. There is luggage storage space on the first floor, and guest rooms have electronic locks for security. The inn was opened by the owner of Minshuku Wakatake in the Nachi-Katsuura area. 

JIYUJIYA is self-check-in/check-out.
The owner will contact guests directly by the email registered with KUMANO TRAVEL regarding check-in procedure after reservation and payment are completed.
