Miyoshiya is a budget Japanese-style Ryokan inn near the Kii-Tanabe Station.  A convenience store, grocery store, and Ajikoji, a collection of restaurants and bars, are close by.  Miyoshiya Ryokan is a relaxed, reasonable accommodation run by Ken, a third-generation owner who spent many years studying in Canada.  In the courtyard of these older buildings is a small shrine.  It has a retro feel to the facilities and has a mixed clientele of businessmen, long-term guests, students, groups, and both domestic and international tourists.

Hotel Hanaya is a small, family-run, casual business hotel located three minutes by foot from the JR Kii-Tanabe Station.  On the ground floor is the "Tea & Pub, Lapine" which serves popular breakfasts.  The name is French for rabbit, but inside the decor is American Western with many antiques collected by the owner.  For dinner, guests can choose a plan with a steak dinner at the restaurant or a plan without dinner and take advantage of the "Ajikoji" restaurant district with over 200 establishments squeezed into the narrow alleys in front of the station.  The local Gourmet Map features over 20 authentic restaurants with English menus.

Konyamachiya is a restored Machiya townhouse near the mouth of the Aizu-gawa river in a local neighborhood of the rural Tanabe City.  The two story wooden house is lovingly renovated, preserving the original atmosphere of the building, yet furnished with modern comforts.  The dark browns of the rough, original beams are a distinctive feature of the interior. 

Staying at Konyamachiya offers a private, relaxed, and authentic experience in a traditional Japanese house.  This project is part of a cultural rejuvenation movement supported by a diversity of local associations and stakeholders.

Altier is a well managed hotel designed for ease of use with a "business resort" concept.  It is 250 meters from the Kii-Tanabe Station, a three minute walk.  The open-cafe like lobby has free internet, self-service coffee, and relaxing music.  A delicious continental style breakfast is served in the morning.  Rooms have views of Tanabe City and/or the Ocean.  The Ajikoji restaurant area is next door, offering a variety of dining options, many with English menus.  Altier Hotel was awarded a top business hotel visitor ranking in 2010 by a well-known Japanese magazine.

Kumano Guest House is a small lodging near the Kii-Tanabe station (less than 5 minutes walk) run by a mother and son combination.  

The main facilities features two Japanese style rooms on the second floor with tatami flooring and sliding doors. The first floor features a reception. Guestrooms are non-smoking with air-conditioning, TV, and small communal refrigerator. There is a washing machine and balcony to hang clothes to dry.

The CUE Hoso Backyard House is a set of restored houses off the main road near the JR Kii-Tanabe train station in the maze of small alleys of the local Akijoji entertainment district bustling with Japanese Izakaya pubs. The hostel guest rooms are Japanese style with futon beds, sliding doors, and tatami mat flooring.  Facilities such as toilet, bath, and kitchen are shared.  The communal sitting area is lofty with views onto a small courtyard.

Hanaiori Guest House is an older Japanese home managed by Hotel Hanaya, a small, family-run, casual business hotel located three minutes by foot from the JR Kii-Tanabe Station.

The house is two stories and next to the hotel. On the first floor is a living room, kitchen, toilet and bath. On the second floor is the guestroom and toilet.

The spacious house is available for one group per day.

It is decorated with retro-antiques. Breakfast is served on the ground floor of Hotel Hanaya in the "Tea & Pub, Lapine" which is full of American Western paraphernalia collected by the owner.

Close by is the "Ajikoji" restaurant area with over 200 establishments squeezed into the narrow alleys in front of the station. The local Gourmet Map features over 20 authentic restaurants with English menus.

Guests can also apply for a plan that includes dinner and enjoy the Japanese beef steak provided by the inn Wakayama's seasonal ingredients in Ajikoji.

Hotel Kii Tanabe is a large, new accommodation that opened August, 2023.
It's located about a 5-minute walk from JR Kii-Tanabe Station and features 85 rooms including spacious single, semi-double, double, and twin rooms, all with larger than standard beds.

In May 2025, our annex "HANARE" opened, offering Japanese-Western style rooms that blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern Western comfort.

A free light breakfast is included with the room reservation, but guests can take advantage of the delicious local cuisine of the "Ajikoji" restaurant district for dinner just minutes walk away.

It is a comfortable and reasonable first-night option for those departing for the Kumano Kodo the next day.

Harvest Hotel Nanki Tanabe is a private membership resort hotel located on the shoreline of the Tanabe Bay in between Tanabe and Shirahama.  Half the hotel is for members only and half is open to the general public.  Rooms are spacious, bright, and decorated with pastel colors.  Guestroom balconies command expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and breathtaking sunsets.  The dining room looks onto the bay, and chefs are delighted to serve you a variety of dishes made with local fresh seafood and seasonal produce.  Relax in the outdoor baths with background sounds of waves. Ichie is a cozy café and guesthouse in a quiet neighborhood around a 10-minute walk from the JR Kii-Tanabe station. 

Originally a local store, the current owners have lovingly renovated the building preserving the original character.  The front section is a café specializing in chiffon cakes (delicious!) and in the back are two traditional Japanese-style guestrooms complete with sliding paper doors and tatami mats.  A small corridor looks onto a garden and links to communal toilet, bath and washing area.

There is also a Second Location nearby with guestrooms and free-use kitchen offered as one of the plans.
