Ryokan Adumaya is one of the main traditional inns in Yunomine Onsen, a hot spring village with over 1800 years of history.  It was founded by a shrine priest in the 18th century.  

All of the rooms are classic Japanese style with names such as “sakura” (cherry), “take” (bamboo) and “sugi” (cedar).  

The atmospheric inside baths are made of wood with lofty ceilings.  The outdoor baths are made of rock, and situated in an elegant Japanese garden setting.  

Ryokan Adumaya prides itself on using 100% hot spring water in all of their meals.

Minshuku Yamane is a small family-run guesthouse in the quaint hot spring village of Yunomine Onsen.  The entrance is hidden behind a lush, well-loved garden and pond. This courteous and gracious minshuku is run by the cordial Yamane family.  The hot spring bath is open 24 hours and filled with constantly flowing thermal water.  Meals are hand-made with local ingredients.  Interacting with other guests in the communal dining area is great way to get to know your fellow travellers.

Minshuku Yunosato is a small guesthouse 1 kilometer south of Yunomine Onsen hot spring and is run by a friendly second generation family. 

Minshuku Yunosato overlooks the beautiful Yomura-gawa river, a popular swimming hole for locals during the summer. 

With pictures of their family in the communal dining room, dog outside the front door, and fish tank in the lobby, it has the atmosphere of a home stay. 

The water for the indoor and outdoor hot spring baths is sourced from Yunomine Onsen. The outdoor rotenburo (available for private use) is near the bridge down a steep staircase, near the river. 

Family members are fishermen and their catch of Ayu sweetfish is often on the menu.

Iseya is a Japanese inn similar to a guesthouse. 

The service is very basic with limited support for guests.
There is no TV or refrigerator in the room. 


It is located in the center of Yunomine Onsen, famous for its healing hot springs.  The communal baths are gender segregated.

There are three ranks of simply, basic Japanese style rooms: Rank S, Rank A and Rank B. 

Guests lay out their futons by themselves and there is free Wifi in the common area. Mr. Goto is the owner and manages all facets of the accommodation on his own.


No elevator in the building.


Closed 20 and 21 each month.

Minshuku Kuraya is a small guesthouse with over 100 years of history and features traditional Japanese construction. It is located by the creek in the middle of the Yunomine Onsen hot spring village.  Minshuku Kuraya serves local “family” meals and the hot spring bath is open 24 hours.  The communal dining room is surrounded by sliding shoji paper screen doors.  The guestrooms look out onto the village.  For those looking for an authentic guesthouse with Japanese architecture this is a good choice.

Minshuku Teruteya is a small guesthouse tucked into the mountain side in the hot spring village of Yunomine Onsen, and is run by the hospitable Ms. Fujikawa.  The meals are lovingly handmade with fresh, local ingredients.  Teruteya is the princess in the legend of Oguri Hangan, who was miraculously healed in the Tsuboyu Bath.  The three guestrooms are located on the second floor and the communal dining room and onsen bath are on the ground floor.  This inn is decorated with handmade crafts and paintings by Ms. Fujikawa.

J-Hoppers Kumano Hongu Yunomine Guesthouse is an international hostel in Yunomine Onsen.  Originally a Minshuku, it was opened in 2017.  There are a variety of room types including a well-designed dorm, mixed-gender dorm, private Japanese style rooms and quad with two bunk beds.  Indoor and outdoor hot spring baths can be privately used to soothe and relax mind and spirit (a favorite for guests!).  A full communal kitchen and basic foods are available.  J-Hoppers is often described with the following keywords: easily accessible, well equipped, cozy and carefree, and super informative.

Minshuku Takiyoshi is the first accommodation near the south entrance to the historic Yunomine Onsen village.  It is a four-story building with 7 Japanese style guestrooms. The first floor and second floor guestrooms were renovated in April 2021. Toilets, sinks, and hot spring baths are communal.  The hot spring baths are filled with the famous healing mineral waters of Yunomine Onsen and have a view onto the green mountainside.  Meals are served in the dining room on the first floor.  Meals feature local ingredients, especially seafood.  The name of the lodging is a combination of the names of the owners.  The “Taki” part of the name is the same character as waterfall, subsequently each room is named after a local cascade, with associated picture above the guestroom door.

Onsen Minshuku Wadama is tucked away on a small sidewalk in the middle of Yunomine Onsen, Japan’s spiritual hot spring.  The building was originally the small settlement’s post office and now serves as a place to stay.  The entrance and main floor are classic Japanese architecture with tatami mat flooring, sliding paper doors and rich dark wood rafters (which are low, so watch your head!).  The original post office room now features a western style bed.  The baths are classic filled with pure hot spring water heated in the depths of the earth’s surface.  Meals are vegan with local ingredients.  The owner wishes to host couples and small groups that are interested in the history and atmosphere of this older home and the onsen culture of Yunomine Onsen.
